Updates are coming!

Hey all!
Just wanted to make a quick note and let everyone know that I will be upgrading EFx2Blogs.info this weekend to the latest MU install 2.7.
Before I go about doing that I will back up all our databases and custom themes etc.
If everything goes well, you won’t even know anything happened.
More as it comes up.
The state of things.

I recently had a chat with Martin, the guy who runs the efx2blogs.com servers, so I figured now is a good time to post a real update on the state of all things efx2.
Since Keith has been MiA for who knows how long now, there is nobody with top level admin and FTP access. That means that should things ever break, we can’t get in to fix them. I know that sounds terrible, but Martin assured me that he still has access to the site’s files and database. On the horizon is the domain name expiration. If Keith doesn’t return in time for that, Martin said we will still be able to transfer all the files to a new domain name. So really, there’s not much to worry about. A domain transfer might cost us some money, but in the end it may lead to access to the top level admin. -photostyle
.Info is going strong. We are getting more and more bloggers daily. I have been running backups, and answering all the requests for themes, and plugins as they roll in.
As far as a transfer of the old, or a merge into the new, once we have access to the backend of the .com we will be better able to estimate the possibility of just moving blogs into .info, or from .info into .com or however we decided to proceed.

In the meantime, the forums for both domains are still very functional, and still very inactive. I’ll be working on some spam cleanup, but that’s about it. The IRC channel is still up as well, but also very inactive.

I hope each and everyone of you a very merry Christmas or whatever you celebrate! Let the spirit of the season fill you and share love and compassion with each and every person you meet.
Two new themes approved

Asusena

Asusena: There’s a nice splash of color across the top of this one, but it ends there. I would have liked to see the BG image stay visible while scrolling. The title text has a limited width, and will wrap into failure after 2 or three words. The main column is too narrow for my taste at 490px.
BKK Theme

BKK Theme: While functional, some of the design elements of this theme seem to clash with each other. The line separating a post’s title from it’s contents seems way out of place among the smoother graphics everywhere else, and the widget title bars feel way too strong.

Spam Fighters Unite!!!
Monday, September 22nd, 2008 | Uncategorized | No Comments
Hey all!
Hope everyone had a great weekend, or is still having a great weekend!
I just installed a new plugin, one that should help us out a ton as we grow. I know I have been seeing a few spam comments here and there, and I just installed Akismet Plugin to help slow that trend.
To activate it all you need to do is go to
Site Admin -> Plugins
Click the check box next to the name of Akismet, and hit activate!
You do not need an API key as I have already installed one for each of you.
This will NOT stop spam bloggers, but it will help stop comment spammers.
If something slips through the Akismet scanner, feel free to mark it in the Site Admin tools as well.
NOTICE: Theme disabled: “Fresh Editorial”
Wednesday, September 17th, 2008 | Uncategorized | 4 Comments
The Theme “Fresh Editorial” was found to have an error and has been disabled. The error prevented comments from being posted. Blogs already having the theme installed will continue using it, but it is recommended that you select another.
On that note, two new themes have been installed ![]()
(and yes, I’ve tested the comment posting on them)
Featherweight

Featherweight is a 3-column and would be good for users who post a lot. This is due to it’s shortening feature, which trims all the front page posts down to snippets, inserting “Full Article” link instead. this shold allow for more posts to be displayed on the front page. I don’t recommend this for photobloggers, since in my tests it stripped my flickr inserts from posts displaying on the front page.
Ocular Professor

On the other hand, Ocular Professor is made for photographers of few words. It’s a two column, but goes with the over/under layout, so all the sidebar stuff is at the bottom of the page. Again, it’s all about the photos.

Problems with Sign Up?
Monday, September 15th, 2008 | Uncategorized | No Comments
If you are having problems with sign up (most notably confirmation email) please email the following:
signups@efx2blogs.info
Sorry it is so long, but it will really help when these pop-up in my inbox.
I will make a second attempt at sending the confirmation code to your email address in the DB, if that one also fails then we will go to plan B (which is currently unknown).

Hey bloggers!
Check it out! I just installed the Jason’s Customciser plugin.
Jason’s Customciser is a plugin that allows us to each make our own CSS changes to our themes we have installed. I honestly don’t know much more than that about the script, just stumbled upon it today.
Take a look at it in your Design menu and let me know your thoughts. Report any problems you have to me utahcon@efx2blogs.info or in the Bug Tracker (preferred)
